I wanted to make an image where the figures were like holes in the picture surface. I had been looking at Indian painting and thinking about the Hindu pantheon and how there always seem to be these gods behind the gods we have now; so Cronos behind Zeus; the old testament god behind Jesus and the same is true with Shiva and Kali. Here their antecedents are dissolving behind them. All the action takes place on a rather nice parquet floor.
